The problem
Organizational Performance erodes when it is left to instinct instead of method.
You were taught the moves piecemeal, never the whole model.

Step 1 of 5 · OKR Goal Structure
One Objective carries the direction; three to four Key Results carry the measurable proof you got there.
Misconception
Practitioners treat Key Results as a to-do list of tasks the team will complete.
Reality
Key Results measure outcomes, not activity; 'launch the campaign' is a task, while 'raise trial signups from 200 to 500' is a result. Completing tasks and moving the number are different achievements, and only the number belongs in an OKR.

Step 2 of 5 · Stretch Goal Ambition
A quarter where you hit every OKR fully is evidence you aimed too low.
Misconception
Every OKR should be an aggressive moonshot, and hitting 100% means you did great.
Reality
Consistently scoring 1.0 means your targets were too timid, not that your team excelled. Stretch OKRs are designed so a 0.7 score is a win, but this only works if you separate them from committed goals that genuinely must hit 1.0.

Step 3 of 5 · Goal Transparency
Transparency's payoff is that misalignment becomes obvious to the people who can fix it.
Misconception
Transparency means the executive team can see everyone's OKRs from the top down.
Reality
Real OKR transparency is multidirectional: a junior engineer can read the CEO's OKRs as easily as the CEO reads theirs. The value comes precisely from upward and lateral visibility, which is what lets misalignment stand out and get corrected.

Step 4 of 5 · Goal Alignment and Harmony
Alignment is about compatible contribution, not uniform goals.
Misconception
Alignment means every team's OKRs are cascaded straight down from the level above.
Reality
Rigid top-down cascading produces compliance, not harmony, and destroys the local judgment that makes teams effective. Strong alignment mixes top-down direction with bottom-up OKRs, so roughly half of goals originate from the teams doing the work.

Step 5 of 5 · Company Vision Clarity
A good vision helps you say no to plausible-sounding goals.
Misconception
An inspiring, lofty tagline like 'we empower human potential' counts as a usable vision.
Reality
A vision that can't distinguish a good goal from a bad one is decorative, not directional. The test is whether the vision lets someone reject a proposed OKR — if any goal fits, the vision is too ethereal to guide work.
